Faith Fidel, a young actress and gymnast from Cameroon is a success story and role model to a host of her peers and kids in her age group. This is based on how consistent and intentional the teenager has been about her career as an actress and her rise to becoming one of the most successful young actresses in Cameroon.
The first time I ever watched a video of Faith was in 2019. The video wasn’t even a movie, it was a video of her displaying her gymnastic and contortionist skills. This video trended for a while and then later, she started appearing at concerts where she would have a few minutes to display her gymnastic and contortionist skills which alway fascinated everyone.
I remember meeting her in the later part of 2019 when she got to perform as an opening act at the Get The Bag Concert organized by Tino Foy in Douala, Cameroon.
Fast forward to 2020 when had a chance to watch her play a leading role called Ekah, the daughter of the main character in the movie The Fisherman’s Diary by Kang Quintus, where she was able to “drop down tears” from the viewers eyes, mine inclusive. Faith Fidel went on to star in another movie titled Where I Come From and her delivery in this one wasn’t different.
Today, we can’t count the number of movies she has starred in, but we can be certain that if she continues on this path of consistency, hard work and strategic moves to enhance her career, she will have a bright future ahead of her.
While she’s currently in Egypt for a movie project, it’s imperative to appreciate movie directors and producers who believed in the starlet’s talent at a very young age and the parents who didn’t kill the kid’s career with fear. The future of African movies as whole is embedded in children like these. Let’s encourage them more.
