In the days ahead, Friday October 15, 2021 at Canal Olympia, Bessengue, Douala, “Back to Kinship” – the movie will be premiering. The movie, which sees award-winning Cameroonian singer Stanley Enow , make his debut in the movie industry as he stars, alongside impressive characters like Okawa Shaznay and Nigerian veteran JOSEPH BENJAMIN , has been tipped by most film analysts, to be one to bring glory to the continent.
Before the release of the official poster of the movie, Stanley Enow made a post that said – “Eye on an Oscar because I’m limitless”. This already hinted that the movie project is targeting the world market. Unlike most movies that have limited visions, Back To Kinship might be one of the few movies to get a selection according to prospects.
In 2020, we saw The Fishermans Diary hit milestones on international stages, as they got preselected by the Oscars and that communicated good news, and a bright future.
Though there have been a host of movies that have been worth the watch, qualified enough to make it to this big stage, some of them pay less attention to the eligibility of their movies for various awards. It’s almost like saying that most of them pay most attention to the “dos”, and neglect the “do nots”.
Around 2019, Nigerian actress and producer, Genevieve Nanji saw her movie “Lion Heart” disqualified on the big stage of the Academy Awards (Oscars). It appeared unbelievable and shocking, but a few steps for submission were overlooked, like soundtrack which was predominantly supposed to be non-english.
Though many Nigerians found it unfair when the news broke, it was an obvious eye opener for most film makers, just like it was a bitter pill to swallow by Genevieve. At least, most film makers, now take into consideration, Language and sound tracks, while making their movies, so as to avoid such heart breaks.
Big Steve and team seem to have done their homework with the selection of the cast and the crew. The cast have very big profiles and it’s already a noticeable marketing attraction as everyone wants their movie to sell. In as much as the movie directors and producer have been accused for being tribalistic in their approach of the cast selection, it could be disputed that the movie connects three industries even more. It connects the Cameroonian movie industry with Nigeria’s movie industry, and since the movie was filmed in the US, it may have featured a few American actors or standby’s.
After watching a snippet of the movie via a trailer, the movie his high definition, the project is promising and there are goosebumps as many can’t wait to jump into the cinemas and just watch this.
While many have been used to seeing on screen, some of these actresses and actors, they will be anxious to see Stanley Enow do what he knows how to do best, though this time not signing, his animation and most performance videos hint that he’ll make a good actor. It’s a bet you can place and the bookmarkers are favoring him to steal the show.
After watching the trailer, the pre-remarks are positive, and favor it’s quest to compare with other movies, and equally to push for a submission. It’s seemingly eligible. After watching the in a few days, it will finally be clear what to believe.
Should the meet their objectives, 2022 could be a year that sees Africa celebrate their first win at the Academy awards with wishes being horses.
So will it take Stanley’s presence, Okawa’s brilliance, Benjamin’s experience and Candylaurice’s beauty to bring home an Oscar ? Let’s keep our fingers crossed.
