It is no news that Cameroon has been disgracefully stripped from hosting the African Cup Of Nations (AFCON) in what seemed to be a suprising announcement that came from CAF. Cameroon has been reportedly preparing to host AFCON by building several new much needed stadiums to comply with the football associations regulations. However, this is not a good time for Cameroon politically. With a lot of instability that has been facing the country in what is now known as the Anglophone Crises and the recent re-election of President Paul Biya in October amidst a lot of protest from most Anglophones who did not vote (or should we say could not vote for him), it is not surprising that the football organization would raise some concerns like security, as well as bad infrastructure which has not changed much since it was announced htat Cameroon will host AFCON 2019.
Nigerian Sports Anchor at The Beat 99.9 FM – Babatunde Koiki tweeted a very important observation and link between Cameroon and Madagacar with respect to Cameroon being stripped off of its hosting rights which had us thinking really hard. Here is what he Tweeted on December 1st:

So there you go. Do you think this was all a conspiracy theory or revenge by Ahmad Ahmad to do unto Cameroon what was done unto Madagascar? Or do you think there is a lot more to Cameroon’s removal? Afterall, Cameroon did win AFCON 2017 and this would have greatly been an ego booster for a country that desperately needs some positive action and much needed good publicity coming its way in the name of being a prestigious host! Need I add that hosting AFCON would have increased tourism in Cameroon like never before. But then again, how would the tourists be able to move around and travel effortlessly from one town to another to watch the matches when the roads leading to major towns and neighborhoods withing these towns on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best is still at 3? Which brings us back to the beginning of our discussion that infrastructure in Cameroon needs Jesus!

Hosting AFCON is not only about having good stadiums but having the means to reach them and being able to travel l across towns safely to watch your favorite teams. Most importantly, security is at the top of the list and right now, the country does not seem as secure with the on going issues between Ambazonians and La Republique. One cannot risk bringing in foriegners into the country and not be sure that they will not get attacked by either parties. Get your act together Cameroon because this stripping off from hosting is embarrassing and for the reasons mentioned above! If there was a civil war then one can even be OK with us not hosting but how can we not be up to par with everything else like all other neighboring countries like good roads, multiple stadiums, more hotels, and amenitites that would allow us to host in 2018? We ar eno longer in the dark ages oh! OK we have said it abi and the world is watching.
