Hello THJ’ers! So Lupita is on the cover of the October edition of Vogue and we’re happy about that! For this edition, the actress returned to Kenya for Vogue where she obviously took some amazing photoshoots in beautiful designer dresses in various beautiful locations. However, my issue with her return to Kenya is why is Vogue acting as if it’s such a big deal that she went to Kenya? Mind you, Lupita grew up in Kenya for many years so she is no stranger to her own country. Need I remind you that she left Kenya to attend University in the US. It’s really bothersome when these big editorials and Hollywood in particular make such a big deal out of nothing. Yes she’s from Africa and this African diva has been back to Kenya ever since she became America’s sweetheart by winning the Oscars back in 2014.
All these magazines are always looking for the next big story and seem to be in a frenzy when an African becomes super successful. Big deal that she went to Kenya! Just the same way alot of noise was made when Lupita wore an African dress with an African Headwrap to match it last Saturday (Sept 10th) at the Toronto International Film Festival, the media made such a huge deal about that as she “stunned her fans” in the outfit and it was suddenly a fashion statement! Why? Lupita Nyong’o is African and that is a typical African outfit worn by many African women so why is it suddenly such a fashion statement because she wore it? Don’t get me wrong she looked stunning in it – thus the reason why we posted it here on TheHotJem.com but it wasnt anything out of the norm. Nigerians, Ghanaians and Cameroonian women to name a few dress like that all the time. So it’s really no biggie! Anyway, just wanted to throw that out there. Now checkout so of the beautiful pictures taken during her trip to Kenya including one with her paternal Grandmother. 🙂
