Since May 12, 2025, Cameroonian artist Dolly Sorel Nwafo, popularly known as Lydol, has faced relentless criticism from social media users, with many threatening to end her music career after her father allegedly stabbed a six-year-old boy to death in the capital city of Yaoundé..
Here’s what happened
On May 12th, Cameroonian whistle-blower Nzui Manto reported that Dagobert Ngwafo, the father of artist Lydol and a suspect already under investigation for a separate murder case, allegedly stabbed a six-year-old boy to death in the Ngoa Ekelle area of Yaoundé.
According to reports, the victim was the child of Ngwafo’s neighbor, with whom he had been involved in a recent physical altercation. Sources indicate that after losing the fight, Ngwafo allegedly returned to his residence, retrieved a knife, and proceeded to the neighbor’s home, where he stabbed the child three times. The incident is believed to have been an act of retaliation.

It was also reported that he attempted to attack the other children who were in the house (one hiding in the bathroom and another in a room), before a crowd stormed the yard and subjected him to a severe beating prior to the arrival of the police. He was later arrested and taken to a military hospital, where he remained unconscious for several days due to the injuries sustained. He is currently under police supervision, reportedly handcuffed to prevent any attempt to flee, while continuing to receive medical treatment.
As for the little boy, he couldn’t survive this gruesome act.

Days after his arrest and detention, Lydol’s father is reported to have regained consciousness, though he remains handcuffed. He claims to have no recollection of the incident, including the alleged stabbing of the six-year-old boy.
Lydol, whose career has been steadily rising, was preparing for her concert at the Palais des Congrès on May 23rd. However, she recently issued a public statement expressing her deep disappointment over her father’s actions and announced the cancellation of the concert, a decision many consider appropriate under the circumstances. Since the incident, she has faced intense criticism and bullying on social media. This raises an important question: Should a child be made to bear the consequences of a parent’s actions?
Should Lydol’s career suffer as a result of her father’s actions?
Regardless of whether the public wants her career to be affected, the reality is that Lydol’s professional life may never be the same, despite her having no involvement in the crime. It’s unfortunate, but her father’s actions are likely to haunt her reputation indefinitely.
Lydol, 30, is a Cameroonian artist widely praised for both her artistic talent and her character. Her career has flourished due to her dedication, humility, and supportive personality.
It is deeply disappointing to see her facing backlash for actions she had no part in. However, it is important to recognize that the damage will impact her brand more than her father—largely because many people were unaware of who he was prior to these events. His name holds little public recognition, meaning most will associate the scandal with Lydol, the public figure.
Notably, Lydol and her father have shared a close relationship. He has been one of her biggest supporters since the early days of her music career.
Many people believe that this scandal could potentially ruin the singer’s career for good if not handled properly.
While we don’t believe her career will be completely destroyed, one thing is certain: it will take a long time for her to recover. This is particularly true considering that investigations into her father’s actions have yet to begin. He has played a significant role in supporting and promoting her through key channels, so his absence will undoubtedly affect her career moving forward. Any music she releases now, unless it’s a tribute to the young boy, is likely to attract further criticism. As such, a break may be necessary for her.
From a legal standpoint, Lydol is innocent, as she committed no crime. However, the trajectory of her career will largely depend on what happens to her father—whether justice is served for his actions or not. If justice is properly served, which we anticipate it will be, then Lydol’s career could still be salvaged. Without it, though, recovery will be an uphill battle.
May the family of the young boy find comfort during this difficult time.
