Former German-born-Ghanaian soccer star Kevin-Prince Boateng has caused a stir with his recent interview where he confessed that money doesn’t buy happiness.
Prince Boateng has revealed that in his quest for happiness, he bought three luxurious cars in a week, while he was still playing for English side, Tottenham, thinking those cars would bring him happiness.
Boateng said, he bought three luxurious only to be happy for three weeks.
“I bought three cars in one day when I was at Tottenham: a Lamborghini, a Hummer and a Cadillac” – Kevin-Prince Boateng said.
Despite buying these cars, the former Ghanaian international realized none of those cars could really give him the happiness he envisioned. The 36-year-old was advising young people not to think money and material things would really bring them true happiness.
“To the youngsters, I tell them: You cannot buy happiness! I was looking for happiness in material things: a car makes you happy for a week. I bought three to be happy for three weeks.” – he added via Goal Nigeria.
Although he was born in Germany and playing for the youth level, Boatang decided to pledge his allegiance for the Ghanaian senior national, where he represented Ghana’s official soccer team, the “Black Stars”, from 2010-2014.
Boateng was in the Ghanaian team that made Africa dream in 2010, when he and his compatriots took the West African team to it’s first-ever quarter finals of the FIFA World Cup.
Boateng, also played for some big European clubs like Barcelona, AC Milan, Borussia Dortmund, Sassulo, Las Pamas, and more.
Weighing in on the soccer star’s opinion, it’s imperative that we chase the bag (money) without losing ourselves by expecting that the ‘bag’ will bring us true happiness and fulfillment because happiness and fulfillment only come from within.
