Have you ever wanted to do something and wished you had some guidance on how to go about with it? Having a mentor, allows us to become aware of what we’re doing and why we do it, which is important in helping us identify the steps we need to take toward achieving our goals.
A mentor will not only provide feedback on how you’re doing, but also provide support for you when you are struggling during your journey. Here are four reasons why you should have a mentor.
1. 𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗦 𝗔𝗥𝗘 𝗔 𝗦𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗖𝗘 𝗢𝗙 𝗜𝗡𝗦𝗣𝗜𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡
Mentors are usually a representation of your goals. They serve as a source of inspiration because they have already reached the destination you are working towards, and are living the lifestyle you desire. It’s a lot easier to reach your destination if you clearly understand where you are going. A mentor is a form of motivation to help achieve your goals because they have been there, done that and you want what they have already achieved.
2. 𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗦 𝗛𝗔𝗩𝗘 𝗕𝗘𝗘𝗡 𝗪𝗛𝗘𝗥𝗘 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗪𝗔𝗡𝗧 𝗧𝗢 𝗚𝗢
The biggest advantage of having a mentor is they have already achieved something you are either striving towards, pursuing or trying to pursue, which means they have gone through the struggles you are facing right now or are most likely going to face. They made mistakes and found the best solutions in the process or ways around it. A mentor will share these insights with you, saving you the time and energy you would have wasted on trials and errors.
3. 𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗦 𝗚𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗦 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗨𝗡𝗕𝗜𝗔𝗦𝗘𝗗 𝗙𝗘𝗘𝗗𝗕𝗔𝗖𝗞
A good mentor is straightforward and can provide you with unbiased advice and constructive feedback. They will not put their personal feelings above facts, which is incredibly valuable. Many people around you are emotionally invested in you, but your mentor is not, and he or she can look at your past and judge your efforts for what they truely are.
4. 𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗦 𝗛𝗘𝗟𝗣 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗠𝗔𝗞𝗘 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗥𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧 𝗖𝗛𝗢𝗜𝗖𝗘
There will be a point in your journey when you will reach a crossroad and need to decide which direction to go. Having a mentor makes the process easier because they can help you to better access the situation and help you in making informed decisions, thereby helping you make appropriate choices for both yourself and your business, depending on what your end goal is.
NB: The importance of having a mentor in your life is immeasurable. If you want to set yourself up for success, then you need a mentor. Don’t just imagine things in air. You require the right knowledge to go about life. Be intentional and purposeful!
