The outbreak of COVID-19, which saw many countries declare lockdowns to combat the virus, may have also created opportunities for new ideas to emerge, and South Africa appears to be one of those countries.
South Africa, which has the highest number of coronavirus cases on the continent, used the lockdown period to open a school dedicated to witchcraft and wizardry.
On Monday, April 12, 2020, the Minister of Higher Education, Blade Nzimande, launched South Africa’s first school of witchcraft and wizardry. The school, located in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, opened its doors to interested individuals.
This institution is the first of its kind in South Africa and aims to fortify and empower those who wish to practice witchcraft and wizardry. According to the minister, witches and wizards are now required to obtain licenses to operate, as authorities are concerned about the rise of unlicensed practices in the country.
You need a license to practice witchcraft in South Africa. We are sick and tired of witches operating without licenses. Just like doctors and engineers, if pastors go to bible college to learn about ministry; witches and wizards should also go to school to learn how to use their gifts so they can operate accordingly and also to preserve the African culture.” said Minister Nzimande.
Like any other school, applicants are required to have passed Mathematics and Physical Science in Grade 12. Application forms became available on the school’s website as soon as it went live that morning. The government has also promised to open more schools across the country by January next year.
