This was during a period when his mother was hospitalized, and he had nothing left. But God came through for him in a big way when a song he wrote during one of the toughest times of his life, Bora Kushukuru, became a hit and forever changed his place in the music industry.
After releasing his first album, Tabasamu, in 2022, things didn’t go as expected. However, the album proved to be a stepping stone to his massive success with Bora Kushukuru — a hit track that was directly followed by another album, Karibu Nyumbani, also released in 2024.
To prove that Bora Kushukuru was Obby’s breakthrough hit, the song currently boasts over 16 million views in just one year, an incredible feat for a song released at a time when the singer was on the verge of giving up.
While Obby doesn’t sing in English, he’s able to reach a plethora of music lovers with his captivating melodies. He’s one of the most streamed East African musicians spreading the gospel.
