Multi award-winning singer, Mr. Leo, has had a bitter-sweet music career wherein his journey can inspire every young artist who has given up everything for the art. After being behind the scenes, learning the art of music for about five years or more, Mr. Leo would finally become the next big thing in Cameroon from 2015, a special artist whose replica hasn’t yet been reproduced six years after and counting.
Being inspired by the likes of 2Face Idibia, he became the country’s most talked-about lover boy, as his lyrics and storylines were what every music lover could relate to. In an industry where new talents were popping out from left to right, he remained special but attention was becoming divided as other artists were also gaining grounds.
His song “On Va Gerer” was losing grounds and while all attention was no longer being entirely focused on him as would be the case when he just signed with his first and former record label, Alpha Better Records, it was time to start looking at life from another angle; establishing his own music production house, and shining the light on others. In the course of shining the light on others, his relevance and type of music would no longer get the same acclaim. Hence, there was a need for a turnaround.
The “Jamais Jamais” singer would then take a U-turn, rebranding his music style from Mr. Leo the lover boy to “The Lion of Africa”, a journey that would take him back to his culture and roots, while unveiling another side of him. One thing his rejuvenation has spelled out, is his difference and Uniqueness, leaving no room for comparing his talent with anyone else. He’s “Jéi” (Different) as his second studio album produced by CFX, hit the stores.
Even though his Lion Of Africa album has not been received as many would have expected, it gave fans a new appreciation of his dexterity and versatility. His international relevance has seemingly increased since then, most especially after becoming selected into the Grammy Recording Academy as a voting member.
In 2022, he had his first national city tour with his band across four cities; Yaounde, Douala, Ngaoundere and Bertoua. As a way of giving back to the community, he left his studio doors wide open for young aspiring artists through the creation of Lionn Academy for Arts and Entertainment as well as the Lionn Initiative which have all been running since 2022. Summing up the year of 2022, he had several international shows to crown his year flying from Ghana to Paris and more. 2023 has come, and more music and more business is what he is promising the masses and his fans.
Unforgettably, he became the face of the first ever issue of The HotJem Magazine, now available for purchase via WWW.THEHOTJEMMAGAZINE.COM, a lifestyle magazine for today’s modern day African.
