What started out as an interview/Q&A session for Ko-C in a Live show called “No Filter” hosted by Theo who is the CEO of ATM Entertainment ended up with Cameroonian comedian Cy International and a European-based DJ who goes by the name of DJ Basil1, calling out some of Cameroon’s well known artists who they believe do not appreciate it acknowledge those who have supported them through their career.
DJ Basil1 had reservations in calling out several artists by name who he felt like do not support those who support them like DJ’s, and fans (with emphasis made on DJs and fans in the diaspora. The artists named were Fhish, Awu Sing Song, Remii and Big G Baba. Ko-C was also mentioned early on in the discussion which got quite heated to the point where the show’s host (Theo) tried on several attempts to end the heated discussion as the show was originally meant to focus on rapper Ko-C. Luckily for Ko-C, he had a meeting to attend, so he deoooed off from the show before he discussion of artists not appreciating their supporters began ans before DJ Basil1 could call him out as one of the artists who do not acknowledge his fans. What a close call for Ko-C!

This is not the first time artists from Cameroon have been called out for either not showing appreciation to their fans and supporters. It seems as if this issue of “supporting your own and those who support you” is an ongoing and never ending problem. Bloggers have also complained about Cameroonian artists and those in the entertainment industry who expect to be blogged about but show no support to the blogs and/or bloggers in return as if it’s the bloggers duty to blog about artists for free.
On numerous occasions, bloggers have said that an artist can also help their blogs grow by sharing a blog post that the blogger does about the artist to their platform. Writing about an artist gives them exposure on the bloggers platforms but artists don’t comment or share the blog post of even themselves. Since most of the artists that are blogged about have huge platforms, a simple share of an article from the blog site or social media can also help blogs grow as the artists followers can discover the blog(s). Support is not a one way street and for the industry to grow fruitfully, it’s like an ecosystem where everyone has a role and part to play in to.
