The battle for the highest crude oil producer in Africa has been between Angola and Nigeria for some time now. It is not surprising that despite the high demand of crude oil in Buhari’s country, the country still remains one of the highest producers in the continent. Even though Lybia is still Africa’s top country in terms of oil reserve, its political instability has greatly hindered production in several ways.
This saw countries like; Nigeria and Angola leapfrog Lybia, to become highest producers in the past few years. Now, with all eyes on Angola and Nigeria, who produce not less than 1.3 Million Barrels per day (bpd) each, Nigeria might just take their production to another level, this is thanks to the coming of Dangote’s new game-changing refinery, which was inaugurated on May 19, 2023.
Following yesterday’s briefing with at least six heads of states with the president of the African Union, all attending, what is now considered as the world’s largest refinery, will produce not less than 650,000 bpd, said Dangote as Africa was celebrating “African Day”. Aliko Dangote, disclosed yesterday (May 25, 2023) that the newly commissioned 650,000pbd refinery would also employ over 100,000 Nigerians youths as well as generate over $21 billion, therefore saving the country’s huge forex, that would have been used for fuel importation.
The company, according to him, now has over 33,000 employees. If Nigeria was producing 1.3million bpd, it will now take it to approximately 2,000,000 bpd, thanks to Dangote Oil Refinery’s 650,000 bpdThis will see Nigeria regain its place as the highest oil producer in Africa. Regain, because Nigeria were top in 2021 according to Ceicdatadotcom. However, in February of 2023, Angola claimed top spot without hesitation.
