There is no real awards show without a red carpet spectacular! This year we decided to focus only on the Cameroonian artists and media personalities who were in Ghana for the eventwho despite not winning, did not come there to play fashionwise. They showed the world that with or without an award, they are always winners and you must always look like a winner. So let’s see who wore what… details on these artists outfits were not disclosed but you know THJ always digs in to get some information so this is what we know about who wore what but first check out thes artists outfits:
R&B Singer Wazih (photo above) held it down stylishly for the guys! He went for a nicely cut plaid suit that complimented his skin tone and hair color. He was hands down one of our favorites males from a fashion perspective.
Meawhile, golden boy Magasco – the only thing golden was the head piece he had on as he chose to look like someone dressed for the cold winter in Russia with his faux fur headband which matched the color of Wazih’s golden blonde hair. C’mon now…Magasco you of all people should know better. You don’t wear faux fur headband/earmuffs in hot Africa! You just don’t! So the fashion Award goes to Wazih for keeping it nice and crisp with his sapeur suit!
Sultry singer Daphne who also took home an award as Best Female Central Africa was absolutely the light of the red carpet and made a simple partly see through gown look majestic. Her choice of hairstyle and the simplicity of her makeup giving her that natural glow made her look even more beautiful than ever as we were granted access to seeing her as close to natural as you can get whilst still looking glammed up enough to attend an event of such grandoise. Her outfit had some of Daphne’s pizzazz with the choice of net for the see through parts of the gown and if you take off the bottom hal fof that dress, it is classic Daphne! But the mermaid bottom added glamore and a touch of elegance to it and let’s just say Daphne has mastered her posing angles making each picture she took picture perfect leaving her obssessors imagining what might be under that dress…
Another media girl who was definitely reppin’ Camer last night on the red carpet was Pam Happi, the host of the popular TV show called The Miss P Show. We do not know who designed her gown but the bold mustard/burgandy furry feather-like piece around her chest gave the gown an added pop. It was a daring move but one that was daring enough to be safe adding a touch of “I set my own trends” type of statement. Maybe it’s the pose in the above photo that makes it work but hey, so far so good. The hair, make-up and accessories were sweet and simple as she let the dress speak for itself. Like Daphne, Pam chose a simple updo for her hair and kept her makeup very natural and simple. As my momma always told me, sometimes less is more!
Next on our red carpet line-up is Singer MIMIE who I have to say looks amazing fresh with a nice glow to her, given that she just recently become a mom for the first time and ladies ya’ll know how hard it is to quickly shed those extra pounds that come with pregnancy unless you are just naturally thin! As much as we love MIMIE, we’re not feeling her dress and not sure what to say about her entire outfit that looks like it was made from a sheer curtain material. Although the choice of color of the dress goes well against her skin tone, the dress seems to be symmetrically off and uneven.
If you look at the second photo of her, it shows a much better view of the front part of her dress and you can see that the left side (her left side) of her dress is sort of drooping downwards as if someone or something is pulling it down. The embrodery-like design around the left side of her waist was not needed as it doesn’t add any aesthetical value to the dress. It only waterdowns the effect and makes it look a bit tacky. The designer should have just made a simple nicely fitted white dress (the same material would have still worked) with no openings and it would have looked so much better and classier especially since her right sleeve is already making a statement showing off her beautiful shoulder and caramel skin. Let’s not forget that the dress also has a long cape adding even more distraction to it which can be a good thing if coordinated well with the rest of the dress. Hair wise and makeup-wise, Mimi nailed it but dress-wise… lets just say we’ve seen her look much better.
A beautiful collage showing off Daphne’s dress just because we couldn’t get enough of her in this gown. Daphne who is know for being very unpredicatable with her style, and who has been criticized by fans and fashion enthusiasts about some of her taste and choice of clothes, shut everyone up (including The HotJem)! Go Daphne… you were already winning before the award!
Unlikes many other people, we actually liked Blanche Bailly’s pant piece. The singer who is no stranger to constant backlash at her over the top skimpy skin showing outfits, takes her style into her own hands and let’s be honest, even though she shows an entire arm, this is one of the most amount of fabric we rarely get to see the diva wearing! The color went very well with her skin tone with it shimmery effects. However, if we were to make that outfit again, the top would have had both long sleeves on it.
Although she looks great in this photo and we would be lying if we said we were suprised to see her show a lot of upper body skin because that’s classic Blanche for you, however, having one arm covered in a long sleeve and the other bare, is a good balance. Plus it showsoff her tattoo which is probably what she was going for. The outfit is by the one and only J2 Designs who has been rising up and taking the lead in styling many of Cameroon’s rising celebrities. We were just holding our breath hoping Blanche’s botton didn’t pop open… not that many guys would have complained. 🙂
The next victim on our list is the beautiful Pearl Luma who is Daphne’s Manager and follow’s Daphne around the world. Pearl who owns a fashion line called Spell Kouture, is no stranger to criticism as some of her Spell Couture designs have also been under scrutiny like the pink and green gown that Crystal of the Crystal Beauty show wore at AFRIMMA 2018 and a few others which we will not dwell on right now. As someone into fashion, it is expected that you choice of style will always suit everyone’s taste and it does not have to as long as you are comfortable in it. So back to Pearls gown, I think her choice of color was great. She stood out from the natural colors and that hat, mama mia, that that just gave that entire look the respect it deserves! Pearl you nailed it in my opinion. Let no one tell you otherwise girl!
Although we did not post a separate individual photo of singer Shura, you can see her in the group photo above wearing a high slit blue shimmery dress next to Daphne in the photo above, she looked lovely in the photo’s we caught of her and in true Shura style, on the side of her head she had cornrolls done to give her hair a mohawk effect even though it was in an updo as well. The main part of her hair being in braids. One common theme we noticed amongst the Cameroonian ladies who attended AFRIMA 2018 was the one sided long sleeves as seen with Mimi, Blanche and Pearl’s outfits. Was it planned? We doubt it.
OK we lied. We did find a photo of Stanley Enow and we still hold on to what we said about his newly found infatutation and obsession with Agbadasor is he trying to create his own trend?
We wanted to save the best for last! Ladies no vex oooh – but you know you all look beautiful. However, we really wanted to celebrate this brother right here who the world knows as Stanley Enow aka Hein Pere King Kong or still keeping the agbada phenomenom alive. Stanley was one of the first if not THE FIRST artist to rock agbada’s publicly as a fashion statement. He was seen wearing an agbadas even before his Casanova video which dropped back in April as well as at the 237 Music Business event where he was the main speaker. Ever since then, Stanley will not leave one alone with agbada’s LOL and thats OK as we love seeing African’s wearing anything African, especially the brothas who tend to shy away more from it than the ladies. Besides the Hein Pere looks like an OMODADA God Father in his outfit. The green color brings out his complexion and love the celeb look with the sunglasses on. in fact, his outfit passes all checks! Need I say more about the King Kong?
