TheHotJem.com has just found out that singer Daphne Njie who is currently signed under Stevens Music Entertainment, LLC (SME) an international Record label based in the US and Cameroon, has just been rewarded for all her five years of amazing work as the record labels lead artist and by exposing Cameroonian music to millions in her own way, by becoming the “A&R Director” charged primarily with talent scouting, on boarding and guidance.

A&R stands for Artists & Repertoire and their overall general responsibilities include but is not limited to finding talent, overseeing the recording process as well as assisting with marketing and promotion. Although it is not clear the extent of her role outside of scouting new talent and providing guidance, it won’t be surprising if her responsibilities extend past these two functions.
What does this mean for Daphne and SME?
This expanded role might be a very smart move for the SME team as they are utilizing Daphne’s influence to scout for new talent and to add to the ever growing record label’s talent database. Daphne who has become a household name in Cameroon and much of French Africa will now in a way be the face of talent scouting as she travels the world and encounters new talents during her tours.
Let’s make no mistake, the role of an A&R Executive is not an easy one and it’s not just about discovering a good singer and signing them up. It entails a lot more and the decisions made by an A&R Executive can make or break a record label. So having an almost perfect instinct and an amazing eye for talent also matters.

As one of the biggest Cameroonian record labels with one of (or should we say THE biggest artist in Cameroon and a string of close potentials), Daphne has been with the label for long enough to know what her bosses needs and expectations are when it comes to finding new talent and this new role will allow her to branch out of her comfort zone from doing only music to contributing to the record label in a more serious decision making role which will in turn help determine the success of the SME company moving forward.
While many of her colleagues are still struggling to make a consistent name for themselves, Daphne is now on the next level or stage of her career by diversifying her opportunities while taking control of her career from a more defined role, with a title that will hopefully bring her more respect in the music industry as a whole.
