There have been a lot of speculation over the years as to who invented the SIM card. 66-years-old African scientist, Dr. Ernest Simo has always been associated with the invention of SIM cards. A SIM, also known as a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) stores information necessary for making telephone calls and sending text messages.
Even though many people have called him the inventor of what has changed the phase of communication over the years, Ernest Simo has never called himself that, however, his contributions to reinventing the piece can’t be overstated.
Ernest Simo, is an astronaut and cosmonaut at the famous National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). He has been finalist at the Astronaut Candidate in 1994 and 1996 respectively. He is a graduate in electrical engineering and obtained a doctorate in Electrical Engineering at the University of Birmingham, in the United States.
The SIM card as mentioned earlier, has several unofficial inventors. Some mention the Germans Dethloff and Helmut Gröttrup. For some, it is a Japanese, while for others it is French man Roland Moreno with Egyptian ties.
The recognized inventor of the SIM is Roland Moreno (1945-2012), a French inventor of Egyptian origin. According to sources, he patented the SIM card in 1974 to protect it from hungry telecommunications industrialists.
