Senegalese-American singer and business man, Akon, has plans to have Akon City, a fictional city he revealed he will be building in over 2000 acres of land in Senegal, have its own digital crypto currency.
In 2018, The “Lonely” singer, revealed his plans of creating his futuristic city in the mould of Wakanda, a fictional place depicted in the Black Panther movies and comics. One of the added plans for the city, is to have “Akoin” which would be an app-based currency used to build the city, which is expected to be functional from 2026.
Without any doubts, Akon finalized arrangements with the Senegalese government in 2020, with president Macky Sall, giving the 50-year-old his go-ahead.
This city is a $6 billion project and even if there were no activities on the ground which slowed it’s advancement due to COVID-19 at the time, paperwork was barely affected. It should be noted that this city was inspired greatly by the movie “Black Panther”.
So if you were doubting if the “Akoin” currency would really exist, then the answer is, yes! It will exist and the business man has confirmed that himself. Unlike many artists who go broke or bankrupt due to lack of investments, Akon took time to plan his future while he was still in the spotlight. The future only looks brighter for the Senegalese star.
