“I am not proud of my last performance. I have carried my fear from the last fight to this one.” – Francis Ngannou
In light of the massive defeat of Cameroonian mix-marital artist and boxer Francis Ngannou who hails from the french speaking part of Cameroon, according to Dana White who is the UFC President, Francis Ngannou gave on of the most disappointing performances in UFC history during his match against Derrick Lewis. Was it really that bad? Well…Francis reportedly landed 11 strikes over the course of 15 minutes and according to many of the news outlets, it was and even worst when you’ve got tons of people (millions of people) rooting for you. Also according to Dana White, Ngannou was supposedly branded as being way tougher and much better than he actually turned out to be.
Dana White reportedly said “I thought he was going to be the next guy. I think his ego ran away with him big-time. I can tell you that his ego absolutely did run away with him. And the minute that happens to you in the fight game, you see what happens. You start to fall apart. I had some personal encounters with him, as did other people in the organization, and this guy’s ego just was so out of control.”
Ngannou addressed his defeat on all his social media pages by saying “I am not proud of my last performance. I have carried my fear from the last fight to this one. I completely understand the frustration & anger that it has caused to my fans, coaches, teammates, family and friends and I am truly sorry for that. I won’t let everyone down again. All I can do now is prove myself and make you proud again. #UFC226”
Despite it all, many still took to his Facebook and Instagram pages and offered words of encouragement to the boxer. Notably, Jon Jones who commented on Ngannou’s Instagram page and said:
