Earlier last week, Google announced the addition of two new features to Google maps, that will allow drivers who use both Android and IOS, to report driving hazards and incidents, and those who use maps on IOS to report speed traps, accidents and traffic jams.
In an official statement addressing the addition of the two features Google said,
Google maps have always helped people get from point A to B in the easiest way possible. Today, we are adding more tools that reflect real time contribution from the community, so you can stay even more informed while you are behind the wheel.”
What is changing is the addition of the ability for people to report crashes , speed traps and traffic slowdowns right from Iphone. This feature has been one of our most popular on Android, and we are excited to expand it to android, Google explained.”
Added to the above, Google is introducing the ability to report four types of incidents – construction, lane closure, disabled vehicles and objects on the road like debris . This would permit the driver to know whether they will encounter one of the one of the above obstructions on their ride and plan accordingly. To report an incident, one simply needs to tap on the + sign then “Add a report”.
Both features are set to rolling globally this week on both Android and IOS.
