It’s been a few weeks since Jovi signaled that he would be calling it quits after he comes through with his upcoming album “Man Pass Man 5”. You need not be reminded of Jovi’s relevance to the industry or may be you do…
Well, he needs no introduction, and as a matter of fact, Mboko music is known today by many and has gone far beyond Cameroon because of him and influence has been able to seize the respect that many have not wanted to give him for as long as we can remember. Many are so focused on who is the pioneer of this genre of music, but no one wants to admit that someone identified it, branded it and gave it relevance. Not a focus of this article though.
I have, just like many others, been troubled about his notification to quit. We all know that many artists have pulled out pranks about quitting but never did, but for the records, Jovi always means his words and with rumors that he might be furthering his studies could just be a conclusion that he means his every word. So if he leaves what next ?
The next thing is that Pascal will ride through the cracks. PASCAL – Yung KING as we know was a precious stone and remains one to his former boss. The love Jovi had for Pascal while at New Bell Music is comparable to none.
It’s obvious that many did not understand Jovi’s intentions for Pascal and may be Pascal on the other hand didn’t but what Jovi had for the Yung king was nothing but love. A few artists have left the label but have you ever wondered why Pascal’s exit was more painful and got more reactions? Truth be told, no one wants to lose a Pascal. Many people who own independent labels without artists signed to it or may be just with casual relationships with the signees might not understand because they barely have that extra connection.
A record label boss like Salatiel has been here before and you can tell that the love he had for an artist like Mr. Leo was extra and the latter understood and showed respect for that love and trust. They must have faced internal issues like any other person but it was handled in-house. It is Not like he hated others, but there just that extra connection with Leo. It’s a similar situation with Jovi and Pascal. Pascal never dreamed of one day disrespecting his mentor and I’m confident. Given his talent and relevance, many would definitely paint him a different picture with daring offers and how many people would resist?
Pascal has been off the music scene for a long period of time and he concluded that he was done with music . It is impossible for Pascal to quit Music, because this guy is music, he is the emotions you want in a song, the fun you want in your lyrics and the sarcasm you want in a flow. How then can he retire? He’s still the closest thing to Jovi take it or leave it!
It was just a music break that he took, but the pressure from the media and fans might have caused his break to last longer and Salatiel has managed to get him back and we can’t wait to hear what he brings back for our ears and souls.
Now, if Jovi finally goes off, his music will keep on playing because he has got an irresistible discography, but if you always want the physical presence of the Mbokogod, Pascal will always be here. Pascal doesn’t want to do Jovi… He wanted and still wants to do Pascal. But it’s just like a call from God, no matter how you run away from it, you’d find yourself doing it.
Jovi has been more confident than ever with his upcoming and last album. If he finally quits, it will surely take a Yousoffa for him to come back to doing commercial music.
The fun time is over now. Pascal won’t go back to New Bell Music and that’s what we have got to make peace with. He’s currently signed to iLion Entertainment and it’s time to write his name in the legendary books. He’ll not replace Jovi if he goes, but he will surely close the gap that Jovi might leave.
