There’s a new update that might interest Nigerian social media content creators especially Instagram and Facebook to be precise.
Despite Nigeria’s huge population, the West African giants have never been eligible for monetization and creators had to depend on other means to monetize their accounts.
According to new updates from the Meta headquarters, Nigerians will be able to monetize as from June 2024.
In March, the President of Meta led a delegation that visited Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, to pitch their project and the feedback that Meta gave to its users were that Nigerians would he eligible starting June.
There were doubts about whether the monetization program would only be limited to Instagram users, but there has been confirmation that Facebook users in Nigeria would also be able to monetize from the same period.
A statement from Meta’s team obtained by Legit Naija read
Sir Clegg, Meta representative said Meta will introduce in June 2024 a feature on its Instagram app that will allow Nigerian creators to monetize their content to enable them to earn a living using the app.
“Yes, starting June 2024, creators in Nigeria will be eligible to monetise their content. We’re working to bring our creator monetisation products to Nigeria, to begin rolling out in June. This means creators, who meet the monetisation eligibility criteria, will have the ability to run ads in-stream and use other tools such as Instagram stars and gifts that are available to creators elsewhere in the world.”
“Monetisation won’t be limited to just Instagram. Nigerian creators eligible to use our monetisation products will be able to also monetise on Facebook as well. We’re working diligently to make these monetisation features available for Nigerian creators in June and our team is dedicated to a swift rollout.
Many other African countries are not eligible for monetization but they’re hoping Nigeria’s eligibility will influence theirs.
