3) Manu Dibango:
The African music industry lost one of the masters of its sounds to the novel Coronavirus. With real names, Emmanuel N’Djoké “Manu” Dibango was a Cameroonian musician and songwriter who played saxophone and vibraphone. He developed a musical style fusing jazz, funk, and traditional Cameroonian music. He set an unmatched record in that domain.
Just four days after the death of his compatriot Victor Fotso, Dibango was reported dead in France after contacting corona virus.
Dibango died at 86. Born in Cameroon in 1933, he passed away on March 24, 2020 in France.
4) Tony Allen:
Tony Allen was a Nigerian intrumentalist, composer and best drummer that Africa has ever had. He was known for co-creation of the Afrobeat sound with his compatriot Fella Kuti. He together with Fella worked to produce over 30 albums together.
Tony Allen lived and worked in France. He was born in 1940 in Nigeria, but later moved to France. He died on April 30, 2020 in Paris at age 79. Media outlets reported that the Nigerian died from a heart failure
In less than three months, Africa has lost some of it’s most valuable assets. May their souls rest in peace.
