Today we are featuring our interview of celebrity make-up artist and CEO of La Star Beauty, Corine (who is popularly know as Corine La Star). We have been seeing a lot of her work as a make-up artist on numerous celebrities and public figures from Cameroon and Nigerian and wanted to ask what she thought about her line of work. Read and enjoy the interview.
THJ: Tell us a little bit about your personal and professional background.
Corine: My name is Sone Ndome Vicky-Corine, born on the 5th of May 1983 professionally known as Corine la Star, i am Cameroonian Nigerian Based Makeup Artist. I am a very jovial person. I am Balong/Douala girl and I grew up in Yaounde (Essos)
THJ: We noticed that you are sometimes in Nigeria and Cameroon. Did you attend University in Nigeria or do you live in Nigeria?
Corine: I live in Nigeria
THJ: When did you realize that you wanted to become a MUA?
Corine: Back in School then I loved using colors. I really didn’t like any subject in school maybe because I was really smart in class LOL! But drawing and coloring was that thing I loved doing so, I knew that I wanted to become an artist, but my biggest regret was not having the confidence to pursue it straight away! After a lot of encouragement from those around me I finally decided that it was time to start doing instead of dreaming. I looked through a lot of different courses, but none of them quite fitted my needs.
When I discovered a Makeup Academy in Nigeria, I realized it was the perfect course for me to work around my schedule and to allow me to move along at my own pace. It turns out when you’re studying something you’re passionate about it doesn’t really feel like studying at all!
THJ: What is unique about your makeup style that would make one know that Corine did that person’s makeup?
Corine: prefer minimalist make up looks which show strength and express itself. You can see that in nearly all my work, I am known for a strong and clean makeup.
