Nigerian singer Burna Boy also known as the “African Giant” continues to make history, as the Afrobeats superstar continues to secure more territories with his music. There are countries that the singer has undeniably stamped his signature in for the right reasons, and needs no introduction therein nowadays. However, one of the few countries the African Giant did not really have the best of records in is the United Kingdom (UK).
Burna Boy had lived in the UK in the early 2000’s and faced deportation from the UK in 2010. When Afrobeats began to take its place on the global stage, the likes of other popular Nigerian singers like Davido, P-Square, Tiwa Savage, Wizkid to name a few, could make trips to perform in Britain to perform but not Burna Boy who had been deported to Nigeria for alleged bank scams. He could only make an entry into the UK if his deportation was revoked.
A decade later, the Grammy Award winning Nigerian has become the first ever African singer to shutdown the 80,000 capacity London Stadium, as he continues with his “Love Damini Tour”. Burna’s influence is unspeakable at the moment and he continues to break records, few of which we don’t know if they will be broken anytime soon.
The tour will continue as he will be heading to the United States to continue doing greater things, but before that, he’s tipped to make a sum of $2 million during the Champions League Finals in Istanbul, where he will also become the first African artist to headline the UCL opening ceremony. He will partner with Anitta on June 10th, when Inter Milan face Manchester City.
Not many people who experience deportation ever get the opportunity to enter that country ever again, but seeing the African Giant winning this big and being so successful, only means you cannot stop a moving train.
