MBOKO GANG AND ASKIA PARTNER WITH BE PERIOD POSITIVE FOR THE ‘ONE GIRL ONE PAD’ PROJECT
The Mboko Gang leader “La Mirage” who has been instrumental in the success of the Mboko Gang movement was also interviewed by The HotJem. When asked how it has been possible to bring the Gang together and get it going, she said:
It has not been easy, especially working with everyone who has something to offer, but for the love of the Gang and the movent, we are a lucky team.”
On Menstrual Hygiene, La Mirage said,
The project is a big one, and we are just getting started. We have about ten schools that we have programmed for the project and 2020 will be a year of full execution.”
Asked why they preferred a boarding school instead of a day school, Batupe of Be Period said,
People only focus on pad distribution and don’t and forget that a menstrual pad cannot educate a child. As such, there is need for them to be educated.” She added that the project is a big one and whether a boarding or day school, everyone deserves to be educated.
In a society where a lot of these things are neglected and women get infected due to poor menstrual hygiene, it is a project worth encouraging and supporting and it will build confidence in the teen girls who rarely have this education.
