83-year-old South African veteran jazz singer Caiphus Semenya is going after rapper AKA’s team less than 2 months after the rapper was shot in front of a restaurant in Durban, South Africa, in what has been labeled as a “contractual killing”.
However, AKA’s recent tragic death did not distract nor prevent Caiphus Semenya from demanding 50% of royalties from the slain rappers team, on the basis that AKA sampled two of his songs without obtaining permission.
According to details revealed by the veteran jazz singer, AKA had sampled one of his songs before and when he discovered this, he confronted the rapper who said he was going to fix the issue.
Surprisingly, AKA went ahead to sample another song off of Semenya’s album, leaving the veteran singer to be very upset and to go after Sony (distributors of AKA’s song) to pay him for his intellectual property violated by their artist.
