UK-based sickle cell activist and rapper Nora Molongwe, also known as Nora Brown, was honored with a groundbreaking Lifetime Achievement Award over the weekend in recognition of her advocacy and awareness campaigns for sickle cell anemia. Her unwavering support for patients living with it has been commendable and noticeable.
Having lived with it her entire life, the 42-year-old activist has made a substantial impact through her foundation, Emeli’s Smile Sickle Cell Foundation. In recognition of her tireless efforts over the years, she was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Women’s Community Impact Awards in Dorset.
“This award means the world to me. Receiving a lifetime achievement award at 42 makes you wonder what I’ve done… I dedicate this award to my personal fallen heroes, my two brothers who died of sickle cell. My mother had four children; three of us were sickle cell and one wasn’t” – Nora Brown said.
She recounted her arrival in the United Kingdom 25 years ago while delivering her speech. Upon receiving a call informing her of her brother’s passing, she felt the weight of grief. A year later, she faced another loss of a sibling, spurring her to advocate for patients worldwide.
Brown, a mother of four remarkable children, embraces life with zest. Her eldest son pursues a career in hip-hop, while her youngest is a model. Nora’s journey radiates resilience and serves as a beacon of hope for those battling sickle cell.
Congratulations are in order for the sickle cell warriors. Over the last 25 years, she has diligently prioritized raising awareness and offering support to sickle cell patients through workshops, campaigns, and providing essential aid such as food and more.
