The “Africans Unite” Concert scheduled for November 22 and 23 in Cape Town and Pretoria respectively, have been cancelled. This means that Burna Boy will not be performing in South Africa as expected.
Back in September, the Nigerian superstar had vowed not to ever step foot or perform in South Africa ever again, if the government of South Africa did not do anything about the Xenophobia crises that hit the country, which saw the death and brutal attacks of Nigerians by South Africans.
Many were surprised when the superstar announced last week, that he would be performing in a concert dubbed “Africans Unite” organized by Play Africa, with the aim of uniting Africans. His announcement to perform in South Africa was received with a lot of backlash and mixed feelings by some prominent South African artists, notably AKA, who has not been shy in expressing his dismay in Burna Boy’s annoucement to perform in South Africa as well as many others South Africans who have been strongly against the Nigerian coming to their country.
Tshwane Entertainment Collective, a South group in TSane, have also made it publicly clear that they were against Burna Boy performing at the “Africans Unite” concert and that Burna would only perform if he apologized to them for previous comments he made about South Africa.
