7 ICONIC AFRICAN MUSIC GROUPS (BANDS) YOU SHOULD KNOW
1.Magic System
Magic System, an iconic Ivorian musical ensemble hailing from Abidjan, was established in 1996 by Salif “Asalfo” Traoré, Narcisse “Goude” Sadoua, Étienne “Tino” Boué Bi, and Adama “Manadja” Fanny. Since their emergence onto the scene, Magic System has played a significant role in shaping African music, particularly within the Zouglou and Coupé Décaler genres.
Their enduring success and unity over more than two decades are attributed to various factors, including effective management, mutual respect among members, and a shared vision for their music. Their chart-topping hit, “Gaou,” stands as a testament to their impact and has propelled them to celebrate two decades of musical excellence as a group.
2. X-Maleya:
This group stands out as one of the hardest-working in Cameroon’s music arena. Originating in 1998, they have carved an unparalleled path by infusing Makossa with their unique style, delighting audiences with dance-worthy tunes.
Initially composed of Roger Samnig, Auguste Rim, and Haissam Zaiter, their 22 years of dedication and teamwork have seen changes, with August Rims departing the group at the end of 2019 after his marriage. The reasons for his departure remain undisclosed. Consequently, the group now operates as a duo, consisting of Roger and Zaiter.
August has since formed his own label and found a new musical partner, signaling his departure from the group. Despite these changes, the X-Maleya group continues to move forward, anticipating further milestones in their musical journey.
