THE HIP-HOP INDUSTRY IS PROVING TO BE THE MOST INFLUENTIAL SECTOR IN THIS AFRICAN COUNTRY

The focus is on the Cameroonian music industry as we take a look at how Cameroon’s hip-hop industry has found a way to have some influence compared to other music genres in that country.

The Cameroonian music industry has sub-sectors and genres that make the industry what it is, but if there’s one sector that has been the most influential, then it’s the “Hip-Hop” industry. The Hip-Hop genre in Cameroon that identifies the realities of the country is “Mboko” or the “Franc-Anglais“. Ever since Jovi and Stanley Enow blew up in the earlier years of the last decade, there has not been any more influential music genre than the Mboko genre, as it has been in total control of the show business narrative.

Though other genres like “Mbolé” have been getting some attention over the past few years, the Mboko genre has stood out in many ways and we will dissect that for you. Jovi and Mic Monsta Official are the leading names in this industry when it comes to endorsements and influence in the past two years and this only tell you how collective they have been. As brand ambassadors for “Johnnie Walker” and “Chivas” respectively, one can only speculate that the aforementioned brands have made more money and become even more respected since they acquired the two rappers as the face of their brands.

Besides these two artists, we can name the long list of artists who were never retained by brands after their contracts expired due to the fact that most of them were popular but not influential enough to make their fans consumes the products of the brand(s) they represented.

As days go by, many new genres continue to evolve while others will die down as they can’t keep up with the realities of the new-age music industry. Others will continue to die down like that, if they can’t be influential like the Mboko genre has been.
