Just look at the number of international and reputable awards Diamond Platnumz has won globally and you will understand why he is still highly sought after anywhere he goes and he will be highly sought after even in Cameroon even more than most Cameroonian artists put together.
I don’t make the rules. I’m just saying it as it is. So all this talk about banning foreign music in Cameroon will never work even if we promote the culture as long as they are bringing in money to clubs.
It takes a lot more than a club promoter or DJ to make Cameroonian music to be successful and to go global is an entire ecosystem with many moving parts (which does not end with DJ’s and club promoters) and an overall mentality change on how we do things to “compete” for the same attention foreign artists are getting.
Take for example, Tzy Panchak’s concert which was yesterday in Douala. 80% of Cameroonians who attended the show walked in Majestically 3-4 hours late after the start time (8 PM) posted on the flyers. Why?
There were foreigners in the crowd who came on time and left even before the real concert could get going. What do you expect them to say about their experience? And you expect change to be made in general when you can’t even respect a simple start time for a concert. Anyway, there is a lot of work to be done among Cameroonians as a whole – politically, mentally and emotionally. Let’s hope things change for the better in 2021!
Ei clear or ei noh clear?
