Cameroonian singer Toki Lala is back with new music following the release of her song “Real Love” and its accompanying lyric video.
The new release comes after Toki parted ways with her former record label in 2018 and began working on new music in Ghana. In the months that followed, the singer gradually returned to the spotlight while teasing fans about a fresh chapter in her career. And the music isn’t the only thing that changed. The singer also returned with another update to her stage name.
Earlier in her career, she performed under the name Tokee Lala, before later becoming known as Lala and Miss OK while signed to her former label. She has since settled on Toki Lala, dropping the extra “e” from her original stage name while keeping the same pronunciation.
With “Real Love,” Toki keeps the message simple. The song is about wanting someone who loves you for who you are, imperfections and all, rather than for your money, appearance, or what you can offer them. She gets straight to the point in the chorus:
Person wey yi love you, love you witi your dottieee, not witi you money or witi your body
It’s a simple message about genuine love and acceptance, and it marked a new chapter for Toki Lala as she returned to music with a new sound, a slightly new name, and a fresh start.
