Just because you wish to conquer English Africa doesn’t make this collabo less important. Salatiel while in France, in the month of February, had the opportunity to work with Manu Dibango, and he was so excited because he knew what an accomplishment that world be for him, but the joy was short-lived as COVID-19 would snatch the world’s best Saxophonist away. The aim wasn’t to make a hit but to just get a Manu Dibango in your song and add it to your “musical CV”.
Nigerian artist like Tiwa Savage has featured with the Congolese legend. Yemi Alde with Awilo Longomba. The aim wasn’t to conquer the francophone market, it was just to add value to their achievments…
Daphne might have won awards and made a name for herself, but she still has a lot of work to be done. Internationally, she’s void. She’s still to hit a Nigerian collaboration, she needs an America feature as well. The big difference between the #Cameroonian music industry and Nigerian, is that Cameroonians are still looking to conquer Nigeria, whereas Nigeria is out there trying to conquer the US market. It’s step by step anyway!!
She must have had goosebumps when Koffi accepted to feature her but many won’t know because there suddenly a lot of familiarity. If Koffi were to move on now like many other legends have, Daphne would be the only artist in her generation of Cameroonian artists to have featured such a legend.
Not just Daphne, but Cameroonian artists need to start challenging themselves. The only person who can relax a little is Stanley Enow, because he has actually used the slightest of his opportunities to get his name up there.
In conclusion, Daphne featuring with Koffi is a huge achievement for her personally and for the industry. It’s not about hits, it’s about who you feature at times, because I’m very confident that Daphne is now much heard of in Congo than before. It was a necessity though COVIS-19 overshadowed the anticipation, but it remains the biggest so far.
