The long awaited day has come and already gone as yesterday marked the Official Launch and Day one of the 2016 Africa Women’s Cup of Nation (AWCON) in Yaounde, Cameroon as Cameroon hosts this years AWCON event! Many people seemed positively shocked at the grande opening performance for AWCON as according to some “it was beyond their expecation”.

In case you’re wondering why the skepticism, well back in September the “Official AWCON” theme song was video (featuring very well known and successful Cameroonian artist Charlotte Dipanda) was released to the public and much to MANY people’s dismay and shock, the song was a MAJOR disaster and so was the video according to many who watched it HERE.

We caught up with a THJ reader who lives in Yaounde And although excited about the opening ceremony that went on, she complained that the traffic in the Yaounde area by the Omnisport Stadium and neighboring cities was unbearable. Unfortunately, Yaounde cannot boast of having overpasses (or flyovers as they call it in Cameroon lol) so if a main street or road is blocked, then you can be sure that you will sleep and camp in your car until the roads are unblocked!
