Did you know Hedy Lamarr was the coinventor of the wireless system which became the basis for WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth et al?
Hedy Lamarr also known as Hedwig Eva Maria Kiesler, was an Austrian-born American actress, inventor, and film producer. She appeared in 30 films over a 28-year career in Europe and the United States, and co-invented an early version of frequency-hopping spread spectrum communication, originally intended for torpedo guidance.
According to an article by The Independent in 2015, she was labeled as ‘the most beautiful woman in the world’, starred in ‘scandalous’ s*x scenes, was married six times and, most importantly, invented a wireless system which became the basis for the WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS systems we use today. One of her popular movies, Ecstasy, was banned for its controversial scripts and scenes.
Had she not passed away in 2000, Lamarr would have been 107 today. W
