Chelsea F.C. owner, Roman Abramovic, who was sanctioned by the European Union and the UK after ministers accused him of having ties to Putin, has put his biggest UK assets for sale, including his most prestigious 19 year investment, his soccer club Chelsea FC, as pressure of many sanctions continue to mount. Since 2003, Roman Abramovic who is Russian bought over Chelsea $2 billion and has since then, won every silver honor you can think of.
The Blues as they’re popularly called are one of the most cherished clubs in the world. According to Abramovic, he won’t be collecting any loans given to the club, which are about £1.5 billion, as he reiterates that it’s never been all about business, but the passion for the game.
“In the current situation, I have therefore taken the decision to sell the club, as I believe this is in the best interest of the club, the fans, the employees, as well as the club’s sponsors and partners,” he said.
The net proceeds from the club’s sale will be used to help the victims from the ongoing Russian invasion, in Ukraine. Is this the end for Chelsea Football Club?
