The popular question about why Kenyan music band – Sauti Sol split has still not been answered for fans who’ve found it hard to admit that the band is no longer together.
Not many music bands can collaborate for up to a decade, talkmore of two decades. Popular Kenyan boy band called Sauti Sol officially parted way on May 20th, 2023, in an official press release.
The band is undoubtedly one of the most famous African bands which comprised of : vocalists Bien, Willis Chimano and Savara Mudigi, along side with guitarist Polycarp Otieno.
They were together for 18-years, making history together and selling out venues during their time of collaboration.
“Sauti Sol has been an incredible journey for us, both as musicians and friends. We are filled with gratitude for the love and support we have received throughout the years. While we take this hiatus to pursue our individual and collective passions, we remain committed to our friendship and our shared businesses. The bond between us is unbreakable, and we are excited for what the future holds,” the band said in a statement released on their social media pages on May 20.
After an illustrious career together, they decided to part ways amicably. They’ve not stopped doing music and supporting each other’s careers, but they do have separate careers now according Bien, when speaking about why they separated.
“We separated because we needed a new job after doing the same job for 20 years. We needed new experiences and new challenges and we got to a point where we were getting a bit complacent and we wanted to try out something new…” – Bien via AllAfrica
They compiled five historic albums and one Extended Play (EP) together before eventually going their separate ways.
Unlike others bands, Sauti Sol have acknowledged the pain of their separation, but are taking one day at a time, supporting each other and navigating their new individual careers.
