Cameroon Reacts After Paul Biya Wins Again
Cameroon’s 2025 presidential election is over, and Paul Biya is officially back in charge. He got 53.66 percent of the vote, while his main challenger, Issa Tchiroma Bakary, pulled in around 35 percent.
Even though Biya has been president since 1982, not everyone is on board with the results. Tchiroma rejected them, saying his numbers showed he actually won. Protests popped up in cities like Douala and Garoua, with people demanding more transparency.
Security has stayed tight, especially in English-speaking regions where tensions are already high. Some opposition voices say the election wasn’t fair, while officials insist it was.
Online, reactions have been all over the place. Some say the country needs stability and peace, while others think it’s time for real change. For many young Cameroonians, it felt familiar… another election, another win for the same leader.
As Biya starts another term, everyone is watching to see what happens next. Will there be real change, or more of the same? Young people are paying attention and speaking up about the leadership they want, and online conversations show that Cameroonians, especially the youth, are more engaged than ever.
