A Canadian journalist by the name of Adrian Harewood took to his Twitter page and asked a simple question regarding the winning of the Nobel Peace Prize by Abiy Ahmed. The photo below was taken from Adrian’s Twitter page:
His question was a sarcastic way of calling out the media for not giving enough media coverage to Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed who won this years Nobel Peace Prize for his work in ending the 20-year post-war territorial stalemate between Ethiopia and Eritrea.
Adrian, a news anchor for CBC Ottawa News and the host of Our Ottawa, a weekly TV current affairs magazine, clearly expressed dissatisfaction in his statement when he posted:
Did #AbiyAhmed, PM of #Ethiopia, who helped broker a peace agreement to end a 20yr. conflict w/ Eritrea, really win one of the world’s most prestigious awards, the #NobelPeacePrize today?Because you’d hardly know it given the shocking lack of coverage of it in much of our media.
The message had a subtle indication that the lack of coverage might be due to the fact that Abiy is black and African and Africans do not warrant excessive media coverage when they are affiliated with positive achievements, success and good things like winning a Nobel Peace Prize (considered to be the world most prestigious award) like their non-black and non-African counterparts would have, if they had won the award.

In someone’s reply to Adrian’s tweet, they mentioned that the Nobel Peace Prize might as well have been given to Malala or Trump as it would have had more media coverage and would have been the talk of the century. Many seemed to agree with Adrian’s tweet and they did not shy away from addressing it as seen by their comments to his tweet:
