Christian Cardinal Wiyghan Tumi who was born on October 15, 1930 has died on April’s 2nd, 2021 in Douala, Cameroon.
He was a Cardinal Priest and the Archbishop Emeritus of Douala in the Catholic Church and was succeeded as Archbishop of Douala by Samuel Kleda, who had been Coadjutor Archbishop.
In 2020, His Eminence made headline news both in Cameroon and in the #Vatican when he was kidnapped while on his way from Bamenda to Kimbo on Thursday November 5, 2020 by alleged separatist fighters in Cameroon’s North West region and was released on Friday November 6, 2020.
Cardinal Tumi was named the Archbishop of Douala on August 31, 1991. He was one of the cardinal electors who participated in the 2005 papal conclave that selected Pope Benedict XVI.
