Controversial American psychologist, activist, and motivation speaker, Dr Umar Johnson didn’t hold back his thoughts about Cameroonian-American basketballer Joel Embiid who recently snubbed his country of origin, Cameroon, to represent the United States men’s basketball team at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Umar, opines that Joel, might have “disrespected the black community by marrying a white girl instead of a black girl, but representing the USA at the recently ended Paris Olympics over Caneroon is a deal breaker.
Umar, 49, is an influential activist for the black community. He believes that Embiid needed to represent team Cameroon at the Olympics instead of the United States.
“Whenever it’s Africa against anybody else, I’m riding with Africa, Period! When USA is playing against anyone, I root for them but if it’s against Africa, I root for Africa. I was rooting for South Sudan and i believe the referee cheated them. They should have won that game…”
He went on in the interview to criticize Joel Embiid.
“I’m not only disappointed at Joel Embiid for marrying out of his race, I am disappointed in him for not representing team Cameroon. He should have represented Africa in the Olympics” – Umar Slammed.
The interview has been making rounds across social media. He believes the 30-year-old Cameroonian-American failed Africa by choosing to represent American. Joel Embiid has been an incredible force with Philadelphia 76ers and was also instrumental in Team USA’s gold medal win at the Paris Olympics.
Recall that Embiid had been under fire for marrying a white in the past few months and representing USA at the Olympics only added salt to the injury.
