In the race for President, former Liberian soccer player George Weah won his opponent Vice President Joseph Boakai with Weah amassing 61.5%of the ballots and Boakai 38.5%. On December 29th, 2017 according to the National Elections Committee (NEC), a little over 1.2 million people voted with voter turnout being 55.8%.
Liberia has already undergone two civil wars and a change was needed to cater to the countries devastated state. George Weah ran under the CDC party while Vice President Joseph Boakai ran under the Unity party.
