King Burna has been busy making music that sells. Many have been seen debating on social media platforms asking if he is overrated and if he is just another Nigerian artist with a stellar Public Relations team.
Back in February 2020, Nigerians all over the world joined forces including most of their A-List artists like Davido, Tiwa and many others, to campaign for Burna Boy to win a Grammy in the International music category. However, the award went to Angelique Kidjo and Nigerians went crazy with dismay! Talk about supporting your own.
Although he won no Grammy this year, nor did the #Coronavirus pandemic slow him down, Burna Boy continued working and on August 14, 2020, he released his fifth studio album called ‘Twice as Tall’ with 15 songs on the album.
With his strong promo and PR team (our Editor-in-Chief interviewed one of his teammates), he continues to be intentional with his brand and goal of expanding globally. In addition to releasing 5 albums in 7 years, he has also released two EP’s and a compilation of songs in a Best Of Burna Boy album. He has also won multiple awards including a BET award.
Remember that he had lost the Best New Act MTV Africa award to Stanley Enow back in 2014 but look at him now, making millions of dollars in USD. Not bad for a 29 year old from Africa.
Which brings me to my next question: Why are artists still making EPs when they can make Albums? Do EPs sell better than albums or are they less work than albums?
