After Iran launched a powerful missile attack on Israel, the situation between the two countries has become much worse. The Iranian attack came after Israel carried out major air strikes on Iran’s nuclear and military sites. These events are now some of the most serious moments in the long conflict between Israel and Iran.
The trouble began when Iran fired hundreds of missiles and drones at Israel. According to reports, some of these missiles reached Israeli cities, including Tel Aviv. The Israeli government confirmed that at least 24 people were killed in this attack. Many buildings were damaged, and emergency services have been working day and night to help those injured.
Iran said this missile attack was in response to Israel’s earlier air strikes. Just days before, Israel launched a large military operation against Iran. Israeli planes bombed important Iranian sites linked to its nuclear programme. The Israeli military confirmed that they struck the Arak heavy-water reactor, the Natanz uranium enrichment site, military facilities in Isfahan, and missile launchers near Tehran. Israel said the goal was to stop Iran from developing a nuclear weapon.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defended the air strikes. He said that if Iran’s nuclear programme is not stopped, the country could soon build a nuclear bomb. However, he did not give any clear evidence to prove this. Israel believes that Iran’s growing stock of enriched uranium is a major threat to the region.
International experts from the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) also raised concerns. In a recent report, the IAEA said Iran now has more than 408 kilograms of uranium enriched up to 60 percent. This is very close to the 90 percent needed for a nuclear weapon. The agency warned that Iran now has enough material to make about nine nuclear bombs if they continue enriching the uranium.
During Israel’s air strikes, many senior Iranian military leaders and nuclear scientists were killed. Reports confirmed the deaths of Fereydoon Abbasi, Ahmadreza Zolfaghari Daryani, Abdolhamid Minouchehr, and several commanders from Iran’s powerful military group, the IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps).
The attacks caused many civilian deaths as well. Iran’s health ministry said that at least 224 people were killed, with many more injured. Some independent human rights groups believe the true number of deaths could be much higher, possibly over 400. However, a figure of 639 deaths, which was reported in some media, has not been confirmed by neutral sources.
Israel also claims that during the strikes, they destroyed two-thirds of Iran’s missile launchers. This is an Israeli military statement, but there has been no independent confirmation so far. What is clear is that Iran’s military capacity has been seriously damaged by the air strikes.
Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, strongly condemned the Israeli attacks. He said Israel had crossed a “new red line in international law” by attacking nuclear facilities. He insisted that Iran does not want nuclear weapons, saying the country’s policy is based on their belief that nuclear weapons are illegal and forbidden.
At the same time, Israel has never officially admitted whether it has nuclear weapons, though many experts believe it does.
The fighting has led to strong reactions from around the world. Western countries, including the United States, Britain, and Germany, have supported Israel’s right to defend itself but also urged both sides to avoid further escalation. Russia and China have condemned Israel’s strikes and called for peace talks. The United Nations and many European countries are trying to bring both countries to the table to avoid a wider war.
For now, the situation remains tense. Iran says it will continue to respond if Israel attacks again. Israel says it is ready to act again if needed. Talks are planned in Geneva to try to find a peaceful way forward, but it is uncertain if either side is ready to stop fighting. Many people in the region and around the world are hoping for calm, but the danger of more violence remains very high.
