Former Cameroonian captain Samuel Eto’o , who started his professional career at Real Madrid, moved to Mallorca, where he made a name for himself and then signed for FC Barcelona, where he went on, to be one of the best signings for the club, garnering many team and personal trophies. After securing a treble for Barcelona, he would move to #InterMilan where he again won another treble with the Nazzuris, making the only player in football history to win back-to-back trebles with Two different clubs…
He moved from Inter, in a controversial decision, to Russia, where he cashed in more than any player in the game that year. He signed for #Anchi, where he became the most paid player in the world!
He played for other clubs like Chelsea, Everton, Sampdoria etc.
While Eto’o secured records in Europe like being the second player to score in two separate champions league finals, he didn’t disappoint Nationally. He won two Africa Cups of Nation in 2000 and 2002 respectively. He also won an Olympic medal at the brink of his international career.
He set records by winning four Africa player of the year awards, and was the leading goal scorer for the competition’s history, with 18 goals (still the highest) though Vincent Aboubakar equalled his goal scoring tally in the group stages, and has set the record to be the only in the generation to score six in a single competition. These are just a few records of Eto’o that we can share.
Mind you that, despite all this success, like winning back-to-back trophies, the fame and the money, those still didn’t get into Samuel’s head… As a matter of fact, he is only one of the few African players without tattoos, despite the opportunity of having as many as he would have wanted!
Even players like Drogba do have Tattoos. Drogba has got one on his right arm though, which is a sketch of a rosary, which is said to be his sign of loyalty to his religion.
Did Samuel’s denial to paint his body because of his future political aspirations ? Let’s answer this question
In Cameroon, tattoos will not only make it hard for you to complete politically, it might bring you issues if you even want to have some particular documents from the state and Eto’o sure had this at the back of his mind!
Remember that immediately after hanging his boots, one of his biggest aspirations was to be the first “Black” to coach a European team ? Well, the former indomitable lion would instead make a U-turn, and embrace the change in football, that he would have wished to see.
In 2021, Samuel made his aspirations become the FECAFOOT president known. With immediate effect, he defeated Mr. Njoya to assume responsibility, and everything is seeming to be under control, at least as at now!
It should be noted that before he became president of the football body, Cameroon were about to be striped from hosting the ongoing CAN, and many believe that his influence was enough to keep the competition in Cameroon.
We don’t know what the future holds however, but we won’t be shocked if Mr. Eto’o became the president of #Cameroon in the years to come. Always remember that he hass achieve almost everything that there was to achieve, and that he set out to do… He’s always leading by example. If it’s winning, he has won and of course won’t motivate with empty words!
If Samuel were to become president of Cameroon, he’d become only, the second player to hit this milestone of becoming a National president, at least, after Liberian President – George Wear, who is the current president of Liberia. Mr. weah, is the only African player to have won a FIFA ballon D’or, and only Eto’o has managed to come third.
It is clear that the man had always had his future planned and he’s just acting accordingly, as nothing seems to be taking him by storm.
