Nigerian senator Ike Ekweredu and wife Beatrice will face jail time in the United Kingdom for kidney trafficking. The couple is facing a combined prison sentence for the offense of organ trafficking that contravenes the statutory stipulations of the Modern Slavery Act of the United Kingdom.
As reported by BBC, the former deputy president of the Nigerian senate, has been given a nine-year jail term and his wife four-and-a-half years for conspiring to bring a 21-year-old Lagos street trader to the UK, as a potential kidney donor for their sick daughter. A doctor who was also part of the plot received 10 years.
