There is no doubt that Africa is filled with young, talented and ambitious people who reach for the stars. One example is a young African from Cameroon, Thystere Djob Mvondo, who has become the youngest PhD holder in Africa at age 22.
Born in March 1998, Thystere obtained his First School Leaving Certificate in 2006 at The Jordan in Ebolowa and enrolled in Government High School Obala the following academic year. He went on to obtain his BEPC and Baccalaureat certificates between 2007 and 2011 at PI and JU International College Nkomo.
Thystere then enrolled in the National Advanced School of Engineering (Polytech) in the nations capital, Yaounde, where he graduated with a Master’s Degree in 2017 after which he left Cameroon for France where he began his PhD program at the University of Grenoble in March 2018.
On December 18, 2020 he defended his PhD thesis entitled Résilience et Dimensionnement dans des Environnement Virtualisés in front of a jury of six professors from different countries.
At 22, Thystere has beaten South African Senior Lecturer Dr. Musawenkosi Donia Saurombe who obtained her PhD at age 23 in 2017.
