The 45th United States President Donald J. Trump has been inpeached by the House of Representatives of the United States of America. Trump who became president of the country in 2016, has become the third US president to he impeached.
The charges leveled against the president, are that he solicited a foreign country to help him politically and that he obstructed congress. Though the Republican president has denied claims, calling the whole thing a “Witch hunt”. In classic Trump style, he has been taking to his Twitter page to post about his impeachment.
Impeachment is the process by which a legislative body levels charges against a government official. Impeachment does not in itself remove the official definitively from office; it is similar to an indictment in criminal law, and thus it is essentially the statement of charges against the official. Trump has therefore joined Andrew Johnson (1886) and Bill Clinton (1998) to become the third president to be impeached. Both Anthony Johnson and Bill Clinton were later acquitted by the Senate.
