On September 19, 2002, Ivory Coast was claimed by a similar crises in Cameroon that led the country divided. There were massive killings and places would shutdown at 8PM latest. Most parts of Cameroon have faced this as well during “this” crises. A group of Ivorian musicians played a big role in attaining peace in their country, and Cameroonians surely didn’t feel their pain but only enjoyed the good melody but there was pain.
It should be noted that Ivorian musicians weren’t forced to do this. No one needed to tell them to. They did it because they were affected by this as well and peace in their country was missing and nothing was working.
One would say the case in Cameroon is different because Some parts of the country are not affected, many don’t even understand the intensity of what is happening. Both innocent souls, Military and civilians battling and we all know that no one enjoys this or maybe some people do, but we need peace!
Sadly, when most artists are called upon to stand for peace with their talents, they get upset, but the truth is, they are if not the best medium to preach peace, but one of the most reliable to do so.
