The controversy follows a wave of the seventeen abortion bans being passed across ten states in the past year and according to the analysis of the Guttmacher Institute. The South Carolina bill does include an exemption in cases where pregnancy may risk the life of the mother. ACLU of South Carolina wrote on its website that,
This medically unnecessary hoop to jump through is another example of the legislature of South Carolina trying to control women in any way possible.”
According to reports, women rights advocates upon hearing this have promised a strong opposition to the proposed ban during the upcoming legislative session.
The bill currently being advanced is radical insofar as it does not respect our diverse faiths and philosophies… and that life’s most difficult choices are best suited for private conversation between the doctor and their patient than to State House subcommittee rooms full of strangers,” said Jeremy Rutledge, Senior Minister at Circular Congregational church in Charleston.
Some women immediately went to the streets protesting by saying that their bodies are their choice, while others said women would die in back alley clinics.
This seems to be yet another boiling issue raising many brows. But since it is America, we all know everyone who is a rightful citizen of the “dream land” has a say and of course its no news that the Democrats and the Republicans always have something that would make them to disagree. But we can only watch see where this leads to.
In your opinion, do you think the law to prevent abortion should be prevented or made to stand? You sure have your say and as such, we will love to know what you think.
