…and then there were curves that came to rule the world and that of Barbies world too!! yes you read that correctly! Barbie dolls now come in Curvalicious sizes as seen in the picture above. Now dont they resemble the average everyday women who isnt stick thin or a “perfect” size two as historically depicted by the Barbie dolls we all grew up with? Thank you Barbie for FINALLY making dolls that mimick normal every day humans! The reality is that most girls will not grow up to have the “perfect” body dimensions that the original Barbie dolls had. So this Barbie Evolution is great!!
In addition to the Curvy Barbie, Mattel, the creators of Babrbie, also added a Tall and Petite Barbie to their evolutionary lineup to mimick real life Tall and Petite figured ladies. This is a major evolution and change to what one is used to seeing. However, with change comes no so good outcomes and right now Mattel is having to defend themselves on why they have made these additions as many have complaint that Barbie does not have to be “politically” correct in how it looks. That seems to be very hyprocritical as for many years, Barbie has had to suffer from backlash and numerous complaints as to why they cant have a diverse set of dolls that represent different shapes and races of people.
I’ll keep my mouth shut on this one. I think this is a great move forward and like everything else, you can never satisfy everyone. I can’t wait to order one for my niece is all I’m saying! What do you think about the new line of Barbie dolls? Would you buy them for your child(ren)? Why or why not?
